Understand your income tax notice
Most income tax “notices” are routine. A 143(1) intimation is just the result of processing your return. Others ask you to fix a defect, explain income, or pay a demand. TellBrief tells you which kind you have, the amount, the reason, and the date to respond by.

Words you'll see
- 143(1) intimation
- The result of processing your return: a refund, a demand or no change. Not a scrutiny notice.
- 139(9)
- Your return has a defect. It usually must be corrected within 15 days.
- 143(2)
- Your return was picked for detailed checking (scrutiny).
- 148 / 148A
- Reassessment: the department thinks some income was missed. 148A lets you reply first.

Questions
Is a 143(1) intimation a problem?

Where do I reply?
