Understand every line of your salary slip
Salary slips are full of short forms, and the number that matters is at the bottom. Share yours and TellBrief explains what you earned, what was deducted and why, and how the two add up to what reached your bank.
What TellBrief tells you
- What you earned this month, line by line, and the gross total
- Every deduction explained: PF, professional tax, TDS and others
- How gross pay becomes the net pay that reached your bank
- Anything unusual this month, like arrears or a one-time deduction
Words you'll see
- Basic
- The fixed core of your pay. PF and often HRA are worked out from it.
- HRA
- House rent allowance. Part of it can be tax-free if you pay rent and claim it.
- PF
- Provident Fund: usually 12% of basic from you, matched by your employer, saved for you.
- Professional tax
- A small state tax on salaries, at most ₹2,500 a year, in the states that charge it.
- TDS
- Income tax your employer deducts each month and pays to the government for you.
Questions
Why is my in-hand salary less than my CTC?
CTC includes your employer's PF share, gratuity and other costs, and your slip then deducts PF, tax and professional tax. TellBrief shows each step.
Is it safe to share my salary slip?
It is stored privately for your account only, never used to train AI, and deleted for good when you delete the brief.
